It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
