India's capital Wakes Up to Toxic Pollution After Festival of Lights

This crisis in Delhi is attributed to a convergence of multiple factors including heavy vehicle emissions, airborne particles, development work, rubbish burning and haze from crop residue ignition in adjacent states of farming communities.
In these regions, agricultural workers illegally set their fields on fire to prepare for next season, producing hazardous haze that then gets trapped over the city as cooler air descends.

The economic and health toll on the roughly thirty-three million residents residing in the capital region is enormous, according to numerous studies.
